Collagen is the foundation of healthy skin, providing strength, resilience, and a youthful complexion.
Collagen is a protein made of three polypeptide chains twisted into a triple helix and is naturally produced by our bodies. It is an essential building block within many connective tissues, including the skin. Favorable properties of collagen for tissue regeneration include hydrophilicity, pore structure, stability, and permeability. These characteristics support smooth, firm, and toned skin. Collagen also plays a role in moderating inflammation, which helps calm irritated skin and supports a more balanced and healthy appearance.
As we age, collagen production decreases, which leads to sagging and the development of wrinkles. By replenishing collagen levels through skincare products or supplements, we can support the skin's structure, reduce inflammation linked to aging, and combat visible signs of skin deterioration.
Incorporating collagen into a skincare routine helps promote a smoother and more radiant complexion. PIO have created a Boosting Collagen Serum with bio marine collagen, hyaluronic acid, and Siberian ginseng. This serum is formulated with powerful anti aging ingredients that reduce fine lines, calm inflammation, and prevent further signs of aging. It delivers deep hydration and gives the skin a radiant, healthy glow.
Collagen can also be obtained through food. Natural dietary sources include bone broth, chicken, fish, and other animal products that contain connective tissues. One of my favorite ways to increase collagen intake is through a comforting chicken soup. Chicken broth has long been used as a traditional method to support healing due to its high collagen content, which was believed to help wounds recover more quickly and reduce scarring.
Here’s my recipe.
Ingredients:
- 1200-1400g chicken (of course the good welfare chicken 😉)
- 2 teaspoon grated turmeric
- 3 chopped carrots
- 3 chopped celery stalks
- 2 onions, sliced in half and quartered
- 4 smashed garlic cloves
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon whole peppercorns
- 3 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 2 bay leaves
- 3 sprigs fresh thyme
- 5 sprigs parsley
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 5 liters water
Step by step:
- Put all ingredients in a large pot on stove.
- Add in water to cover them all.
- Simmer for 24–48 hours, skimming fat occasionally.
- Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
- Discard solids and strain remainder in a bowl through a colander.
- Let stock cool to room temperature, cover and chill.
Maintaining optimal collagen levels is essential for preserving skin's youthful glow and reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
